Dorking DNA – Dorking Needs Action is a community
project which ran a wide reaching public consultation
and
research exercise to identify the changes that
we,
the community, believe will make a difference.
It was part of the government's Market Town
Healthcheck Program, and DNA established the
facts,
figures, views and feelings of our community
about the
issues that really matter to us...
As well as analyzing a wide range of official data,
reports and
statistics DNA carried out over 400
street surveys, received
back over 1300 detailed
questionnaires and ran a number of
focus groups.
At the end of this process we had a clear picture
of the needs of the town and surrounding area in terms of -
• Environment • Transport • Community • Economy
All of this data is now freely available on the Mole Valley

After more than five years in operation DNA plan to cease our
activities in
March 2012. By which time we will have delivered
a range of projects to
improve Dorking and its hinterland.
These are
- A Dorking Business Show (Successfully run in September 2010 and
now taken over by the Dorking Chamber of Commerce).
- Infrastructure improvements for the town’s markets both at St Martin’s and in
South Street
- Enhancements and improved signage for the footpath network
- Improved cycle parking
- A mystery shopping exercise to help local businesses improve
- A transport study to help improve public transport to outlying villages
