Dorking Business Show 16th Sept 2010

A first for Dorking!

Following  consultation in 2008, DNA noted a  lack of  available business support and advice,  to help businesses in and around Dorking.  Business Link Surrey provided useful support, but not every business used it.

£4000 was obtained from SEEDA, and matched by Mole Valley District Council,  to allow DNA Ltd to launch the Dorking Business  Programme, of  business support , seminars and networking, to assist all enterprises in the area.

Steering Group sessions , which involved Business Link, Chambers of Commerce and local businesses, led to the Dorking Business Show Project -  aimed at  those wanting to get  businesses  “going or growing”.  A show space was booked in Dorking Halls on 16th September 2010,  to offer FREE  1:1 business clinics, FREE Business seminars, and an Exhibition of 40+ stands to showcase Business Support and Business to Business services .

Exhibitors paying £75 - £350, will supplement the insufficient budget. The income has allowed for a short series of 2 hr seminars on subjects of interest  before and after the event.  Additional sponsorship  was found from Downs Solicitors (the banners) , Surrey Economic Partnership (the breakfast networking session) and for all tea and coffee served on the day to visitors and exhibitors (Churchill Catering, but to break even - many local businesses have given their time to ensure the show’s success.

2 very successful pre-show seminars were held:  “Tweets and Things – Social Networking” on 10 June 2010 and “Business Presentation” on 1 July 2010, with future seminars planned in late 2010 and early 2011.

The Dorking Exhibition and Seminars are something new and exciting, if appreciated by the local enterprises we hope they will  return as a annual or bi-annual event.

Dorking DNA now a company limited by guarantee
Dorking DNA is now Dorking DNA Ltd as we have set it up as a company limited by guarantee. This more formal structure will help in securing grant funding, and limit the liability of anyone working on DNA projects. We are now actively recruiting local organisations to become members of the company. Members attend the annual general meeting and elect the board of Directors; they are able to stand for election themselves. More details of membership of DNA can be dowloaded from the downloads page.
